Covid Catch-up Funding

The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds.

School allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis. Mainstream schools will get £80 for each pupil in from reception to year 11 inclusive.  A typical primary school of 200 pupils will receive £16,000 while a typical secondary school of 1,000 pupils will receive £80,000.

At St Mary's Bryanston Square CE Primary, we have been allocated £13,280.

We are spending our funding on the the following aspects to help support catch up across the school:

  • Employing an additional experienced teacher (one day per week for 32 weeks) work with groups/individual pupils - addressing gaps in learning. £10,400 The proposed impact is increased number of children reaching the expected levels. EEF evidence shows that small group work/provision can be effective (+4 months), particularly when led by well-trained professionals.
  • Additional resources (CGP revision books) for whole school in Maths, Reading and SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar): £1,300 The proposed impact is that children will have opportunities during time away from school, weekends and holidays, where they and families can consolidate their basic skills and not allow these to dip.
