Computing
At St Mary’s Bryanston Square CE Primary School we aim to deliver a high-quality computing education that enables pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We want pupils to have the technological skills they need to access any career opportunity in the future. We teach computing through three concepts; computer science, information technology and digital literacy.
3 concepts of computing:
Computer science
In computer science pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.
Information technology
Information technology is used to create programs, systems and a range of content.
Digital literacy
Digital literacy ensure that pupils are able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology- at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
E-safety:
E-safety is an integral part of our curriculum at St Mary’s Bryanston Square CE Primary School. In each year group, computing teaching begins in autumn term with an e-safety topic. Throughout the year, e-safety is then revisited each time a digital literacy unit is taught.
We aim to develop:
- Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms, and data representation.
- Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
- Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
- Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
Computing Curriculum
In the document below you will find the information detailing all expectations for each unit of work, the knowledge and skills being taught and acquired through learning.
We use the 3BM Scheme of work to support our teaching in the area of the curriculum. We are also ably supported by Lead Teachers and Advisors from 3BM, which enables us to provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities for all children.
